+ Katie Seay

+ Katie Seay

Kathryn Jean Seay, the first daughter born to Jean and Bill Seay on Mother’s Day and her grandfather’s birthday, Sunday May 10, 1987. Katie was named after her great grandmother Katarina (Kormanik) Benya, her grandmother Kathryn Virginia (Snook) Seay and her grandma’s cousin Kathryn (Novacic) Zelei with whom she also shared the same birth date of May 10. She received the sacraments of Baptism, Chrismation, Reconciliation and Eucharist at St Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church in Barberton, OH. Her younger sister Sarah was her constant companion growing up; the one she protected, loved and fought with ever since they were toddlers. Katie also has an older half sister Christine who is now married with a family of her own.

Katie was a shy, soft-spoken girl who always stood-up for and befriended the underdog. Her favorite phrases were, “I’m spending time with the fam (family) this weekend,” “Man oh man, it’s roastin’,” and “I’m soooo embarrassed!” She loved her family, friends and especially her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ through the teachings of her Byzantine Catholic faith. She was a member of St Nicholas Youth group and the St Nicholas Choir of which her grandma, Rita Benya is director. She worked at the family business, Hunky Dory Pastries during the busy holiday (Holy Day) seasons where she helped bake and assemble hundreds of cookie trays.

Katie attended Norton City Schools through the 10th grade. Her favorite teacher was Mrs. Graves, her favorite movie was The Goonies and her favorite solo artist was John Mayer. She loved to play fast-pitch softball, which she enjoyed along with her sister Sarah since their elementary school days. Katie made the Varsity softball team as a freshman in High School and played on a traveling team during the summer months.

Her untimely death was sudden and unexpected to everyone. In the spring of 2003 she had a bout with strep throat and mono at the same time. We thought she recovered from them both but came to find out, only too late, that the virus causing her mononucleosis remained in her body, found it’s way to her heart and ultimately caused her death exactly one month after her 16th Birthday.

Her family and friends were all blessed for the time they spent with her while she was on this earth and we look forward to being with her once again in our future life in heaven with our Lord and Savoir Jesus Christ.

Eternal Memory, Vicnaja Pamjat, +Katie Seay.
