Dr. Renee Markovich Presentation
On Thursday evening July 21, Dr. Renee Markovich MD, who is a parishioner at St. Nicholas Church in Barberton, Ohio presented a program to the parishioners on “Healthy Living”. Dr. Markovich is currently Associate Program Director for Akron General Medical Center for Family Medicine. Dr. Markovich has developed a special interest in fitness and healthy living due to her personal journey of loosing 100 pounds using the Weight Watchers Program. Her talk centered on enjoying your food, eating whatever you want, but in moderation, and using smaller plates to trick your brain into thinking that you are eating the same amount that you would with larger portions on a bigger plate. She also stated that eating habits are formed in the brain and that you can retrain your brain for healthy eating habits. The USDA has just recently revised the eating pyramid to make it easier to understand. The website: ChooseMyPlate.gov lists 10 tips for nutrition along with an image of a plate, and the portions that are suggested. Dr. Markovich ended the evening by answering questions from the audience and sharing a few websites for healthy eating recipes: They are Cooking Light. Com, Weight Watchers.com and Hungry Girl.
