Emeritus Bishop John Kudrick's statement

Emeritus Bishop John Kudrick's statement welcoming Bishop Milan Lach to the Eparchy of Parma.

As Bishop Emeritus of the Eparchy of Parma, it was with great pleasure to hear of Pope Francis’ appointment of Bishop Milan Lach, SJ, as apostolic administrator of the eparchy that I served for fourteen years. It was well worth the wait of over a year of being without a resident bishop.
We would be remiss, of course, not to thank Metropolitan William Skurla for his year-long administration of the eparchy from Pittsburgh.
Bishop Milan is no stranger to this Eparchy. He and Metropolitan Flp Kocsis of Hajdúdorog, Hungary, visited here in 2013. Both then and during my several visits to Europe, I had encouraging conversations with Bishop Milan. We shared a similar vision for evangelization, parish ministry, and the growth of monastic life, as experienced in this eparchy.
His extensive Jesuit formation, studies that culminated in a doctorate from the Oriental Institute in Eastern Christian Spirituality, and priestly and episcopal ministry have gained for him a profound understanding of the Christian faith in the Byzantine tradition. His intelligence, zeal, work ethic, missionary spirit and spirituality are evident and will serve well in this Byzantine Catholic Eparchy. This, combined with his warm and friendly personality, will surely inspire the rest of us to a fruitful collaboration.
It was providential that the Holy Father named Bishop Milan on the Feast of the Nativity of the Holy Forerunner John the Baptist, under whose patronage I placed the Eparchy. As the troparion of this feast reminds us, through St. John “the Incarnation of the Son of God is proclaimed to the world.” May the same prophetic zeal of our eparchial patron empower this God-chosen Bishop’s proclamation of Jesus Christ in this Eparchy, as so many have come to know from his former ministry.
I join with the clergy, monastics and laity of the eparchy, in offering a promise of our support and prayer as we welcome this spiritual father with an enthusiastic "God grant you many years."
